BPS Indragiri Hilir Regency has released the latest Official Statistics (BRS) on April 1, 2024 regarding Tembilahan's 2024 inflation portrait. Tembilahan's month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation condition was recorded at 1.22 percent, year-on-year (y-on-y) at 3.16 percent, and year-to-date (y-to-d) at 1.98 percent. Rice, lemongrass, gold jewelry, eggs, and shallots were the commodities that contributed the largest share to y-on-y inflation.
Phenomena affecting inflation have been identified, such as high rainfall conditions in the previous month in chili-producing areas resulting in depleted stocks. In addition, increased demand ahead of Ramadan (early March to mid-March 2024) also had an influence on March inflation in Tembilahan. This was identified through satellite data in the form of Night Time Light (NTL) or nighttime lighting data on earth.
The data explains that every year in the month of Ramadan the economic activity of the community increases which is characterized by the high value of NTL Tembilahan. The high economic activity causes the demand for the market to increase drastically. A high increase in demand that is not followed by a high increase in supply will cause inflation.
